This mini-grant program is for student initiatives involving community action.

Specifically, projects should contribute to the public good and support the following learning goals:

  • Strengthening students’ civic identity.
  • Cultivating students’ civic knowledge.
  • Building students’ civic skills.

How It Works

The Center for Community Engagement funds independent activities and/or projects that are not otherwise fully funded by another department or student organization.

  • Funding is available to current, returning undergraduates. Graduating seniors are not eligible to apply for funding for activities that occur after graduation.
  • Funding does not usually support tuition for for-credit courses or workshops leading to certification.
  • Applications should be submitted at least two weeks prior to the date of the proposed activity or project to CCE Director, Kailee Brickner-McDonald (kbricknermcdonald@middlebury.edu).

Past mini-grant awards have included funding for conference fees, transportation, project supplies, postage, film screening rights, and community-based research expenses. Typical grants range from $25-$500.

Grantees agree to complete a reflection on their funded experience within two weeks of completion of the project.
