The Middlebury Mountain Club is trying to find ways of highlighting narratives that are often excluded from the normative outdoor dialogue here at Middlebury. We want to create a platform that demonstrates the ways people on campus connect with nature other than just outdoor athletic activities such as backpacking or skiing. This effort is also an attempt to reflect on the historic exclusivity of the outdoors; we hope these stories bring greater visibility to narratives on campus that have been excluded or made uncomfortable by the outdoors due to identities regarding race, gender, class, or able bodiedness.
These narratives will be shared during the Middlebury Mountain Club's story telling event, as part of the MMC's 100th anniversary celebrations. The story telling event will take place at 7:00 pm on Tuesday, May 2nd around the fireplace on the patio of Atwater dining hall. It will be a great way to hear each others 'outdoor voices' in a relaxed and cozy environment. Everyone is welcome!
