Welcome!
We are so thrilled that you are checking out Beyond the Vagina (Monologues) 2k19! Whether you're a first-timer or a seasoned regular, we cannot wait for you to share in this experience with us.
The Vagina Monologues experienced a long hiatus at Middlebury, rekindled in 2014 by a group of committed, critical womyn who wanted to create safe, creative communities to talk about womanhood and sexuality and vaginas but didn't lurv the original premises of Eve Ensler's movement. What has followed since has been an iterative, regenerative process, with the original Vagina Monologues morphing and evolving into Beyond the Vagina (Monologues), a show that we hope is more inclusive, critical, and representative of and relevant to our community.
This year, as is tradition, Beyond the Vagina (Monologues) is back, with a full length production! This year we want to expand the ways in which we engage with BTVM. That's why this year we're calling all ACTORS, WRITERS, VISUAL ARTISTS, DANCERS, MUSIC MAKERS, COSTUME/SET/LIGHTING/SOUND DESIGNERS, and general badass folx and creatives from all (socially constructed) genders, races, nations, sexualities, and abilities to JOIN US! Whether you know exactly which monologue you want to do, have a vague idea of a story you want to tell, or just kinda want to be involved somehow: let us know!
We just wanna spend a month making art out of femininity and vaginas! Will it be chaotic? Definitely. Will it be feminist? You can be damned-well sure. Will it be fun? Eff yes!
Let us know down below when you can come for an info session/audition. We're open to varying levels of participation and commitment. So come talk to us about how you wanna be involved. We really want you to be!!
If you're interested in acting check out this document, choose a monologue, and come in for auditions in Sunderland basement ready to present it and start a conversation (don't stress about memorizing it):
