Middlebury Institutional Repository holds content created by students, faculty and staff of Middlebury College and Middlebury Institute of International Studies at Monterey. It includes theses and student projects, faculty open access publications, research data, and digitized research collections, providing a platform for storage, archiving, preservation, discovery, access, and sharing. Contributed items are often submitted in accordance with the policies of Middlebury, individual departments and programs, or external funding agencies.

What can I deposit?

Middlebury Institutional Repository accepts a wide range of scholarly outputs (including data, publications, conference materials, theses, etc.) in a variety of formats, from all fields, subjects, and disciplines at Middlebury, as long as it meets the following conditions:

  • The work must be produced, submitted, or sponsored by a current Middlebury faculty (including emeritus), staff member, or student.
  • The work must be scholarly or research oriented.
  • Contributions are intended to be a permanent part of the repository, and should be permissible for public access and reuse.
  • The author/copyright holder must be willing and able to grant Middlebury the nonexclusive right to preserve and distribute the work in perpetuity per the terms and conditions of deposit.
  • The work follows the policies set by Middlebury and the criteria and practices set by Middlebury's Library.

There may be discipline specific repositories that are more appropriate for some research. For content, file sizes, or formats that are out of scope or capabilities for the Repository, we encourage depositors to reach out to our Repository Team.

  • Research data on human or animal subjects or data that would be subject to Research Compliance requirements that has not been approved by the IRB and/or IBC and/or IACUC for public dissemination.
  • Active datasets – Middlebury Institutional Repository is not intended to be external storage for project data.  If you have questions about active data storage, contact the Data Management team.
  • Materials containing personally identifiable information that would prohibit public access.
  • Administrative materials, unless they are used for research purposes and the the depositor has discussed the material with the Repository Team.
  • Materials stemming from regular coursework, personal research, or creative content.
