This course explores American life in the last six decades through an analysis of our central medium: television. We will consider
- The economics of the television industry
- TV form, narrative, & genres
- TV’s representations of gender, sexuality, & race
- TV’s role in everyday life
- TV’s technological and social impacts
- TV’s place in digital culture
- TV's role within America’s public sphere
