Currently, dairy farm workers (mostly undocumented immigrants) in Vermont are being exploited and are subject to unsafe and inhumane working conditions. "Milk for Dignity" is a program that protects the rights of undocumented farm workers by means of a contract between companies and farms. When a company signs this contract, they are agreeing to only source their milk from ethical farms and they must also pay a premium to help support farms that are giving their workers more benefits. Getting the Hannaford chain to sign onto this contract which be immensely influential in positively impacting the lives and working conditions of migrant farm workers in Vermont. This petition will demonstrate that Middlebury students (a large percentage of the customers of the Middlebury Hannaford) will not stand for the unethical treatment of farm workers.
