MiddSafe 2019-2020 Application
Thank you for your interest in applying to MiddSafe: Middlebury Safe and Confidential Advocates. MiddSafe advocates are Middlebury College students committed to providing a safe and confidential resource for our peers in need of support and information around sexual assault, stalking, dating violence, domestic violence, and other personal violations. Our goal is to exist as a non-judgmental, compassionate, and effective system for individuals in emergency and non-crisis situations. We provide a menu of options to guide students towards medical, legal, and emotional resources on local, state, and national levels.

The advocate volunteer position includes:
- Staffing a 24/7 hotline during the academic year and offering in-person meetings with contacts
- Attending 40+ hours of training to be confidential under Vermont state law. Most of our training will take place in the two weeks before the beginning of the Fall semester, beginning on or after Thursday, August 22, 2019*
- Collaborating with the student life staff and student organizations regarding issues relevant to MiddSafe
- Meeting weekly with the group
- Meeting with other advocates outside of weekly meeting times to encourage support within the group

*Exact dates will be confirmed with accepted advocates. Please note that students stepping into the role of Res life and MiddView leaders will not be able to attend training, and therefore will not be considered eligible to serve as MiddSafe advocates. Students entering their super-senior fall and going abroad in Fall 2019 are also ineligible to apply.

The time commitment:
- Two weeks prior to classes for Fall 2019
- 1.5 hours of meeting time per week
- 1 hour of meeting time with other advocates outside of full group meeting
- 2-3 week-long hotline shifts per semester
- Several hours outside of regular meeting time to work with other advocates and contacts
- Occasional evening events
