Writing Workshop: Creating Culturally Profound Responses to Environmental Crises
When: Wednesday, February 2, 2022
Time: 1-2:30 p.m.
Where: Zoom (you will get an email for this soon!)

Do you identify as someone whose culture is at environmental risk? Does environmental racism mean anything to you or someone you love? Are you an environmental activist? Are you creative? Imagine a workshop in which you are able to learn about African environmental artists, write creatively, and collaboratively brainstorm further culturally-centered creative ways of engaging with and doing something about environmental crises. Sign up to attend a short workshop and learn about the artworks of George Osodi, Zanele Muholi, and El Atsui. This intimate gathering will engage in questions of when art becomes activism and whether art can do things activism can’t. Gather in a space of solidarity to imagine creative ways to care for our respective communities and environments. Learn about the intersections of science, activism, and art; engage in dialogue, and inspire action. Leave with a concrete plan to realize a creative work in response to a specific local or global crisis.

After attending this workshop, students will be invited to submit an original piece of writing, art, film, music, dance, or creative work, for a potential reading/exhibition.
