Hello writers and editors! The Campus is working on growing our multimedia section, which will include photo essays, videos, documentaries, and podcasts.
What you will do:
- Work one-on-one with an editor to pitch a story in an area of your interest (ex fashion, social justice, arts and culture, sports, environment, etc), you will pick a medium and contact people who are involved in the issue.
- You will shadow them as a photographer or videographer, or invite them into the studio for a podcast interview.
- You will then again work with an editor to edit and sequence your work, and prepare it for publication.
What you get out of it
- A multimedia journalism portfolio
- Proficiency with Adobe Creative Cloud (Photoshop, Lightroom, In-design, Premier)
- You get to talk to people in your area of interest that you just don't meet as a normal student here (ex, in the past we have profiled dinning hall staff at Proctor, local bookshop owners, college carillonneurs, etc)
- An opportunity to do in-depth reporting on one topic if you wish to. Can also do shorter, weekly pieces over a range of topics.
Ideal Applicant:
- Experience not required, but always appreciated!
-You need to be motivated and curious about people and storytelling, and opening minded toward those who come from different backgrounds and have different values in life.
- Good with deadlines
- Good at communication (replying to emails promptly, letting the editor know if you are expecting delays, etc)
If you have interest and would like to be a part of the team, please fill in the form and we will contact you shortly. If you have additional questions, email dsantikarma@middlebury.edu and dsaleh@middlebury.edu (aka Devin and Daleelah)
