The purpose of this anti-racism reading guide is to promote access to works and materials addressing topics of race, identity, and experience for all members of the Middlebury community, and to support members of our community in learning and thinking deeply about these ideas. The theme that connects all of these works is the exploration of our differences and commonalities. What is it like to live in a community where you sometimes feel as if you’re on the outside looking in? How does an individual and a community benefit from diversity and inclusion? How can we understand these issues and navigate them together?
What you will find here:
Concepts and Vocabulary: These works cover the breadth and depth of thought on issues of race. They're great places to start becoming more familiar with history, current theory and key issues.
Personal Narratives: These works reflect the lived experiences of people from a wide variety of backgrounds.
Fiction and Poetry: Novels, novellas, short story collections, and books of poetry by BIPOC authors, and related works.
Staff Picks: Periodically, library staff review books and other materials of interest on topics related to anti-racism. As new titles are reviewed, these items can be found here.
