Commencement Concerns Petition: Updated
UPDATE:

As of 4/23/21, the administration released the following announcement about Commencement: https://www.middlebury.edu/college/commencement

In sum, up to two guests per student, along with Febs, will be able to attend. Additionally, the move-out deadline will be moved to Sunday, May 29, at 12:00 p.m.

Thank you to everyone who shared their thoughts in this petition, who got in touch with the administration, and  those who helped us get the message out. We also are so grateful to the administration for listening and responding to our concerns both in this petition and elsewhere.

We look forward to Commencement, and are so excited to get to celebrate as best we can under the circumstances.

Commencement Concerns Petition
This petition is concerned with the changes to the 2021 Commencement activities. To sign in support, scroll down and submit your name.

Many Middlebury college seniors and families are disappointed in Middlebury College’s commencement plans, which are more restricted than those of other NESCAC schools. In light of improving conditions and our demonstrated success at maintaining a safe campus, we believe that the college can and should create a fuller celebratory experience for the seniors, safely. We outlined our concerns in an op-ed in the Middlebury Campus, which you can view here:

The signatories of this petition write in objection to the plans and timeline for the 2021 Commencement ceremony and the lack of clear communication regarding why certain changes to Commencement activities have been made. We ask the administration to extend the move out date to at least Sunday, May 30, improve communication with the senior class about recent changes, and welcome senior Febs to attend the ceremony.
