STEM and Quantitative Support
Quantitative skills and reasoning ability have become an important component of many courses, majors, and careers (and life) beyond college.
Professional and peer tutors are available to assist students in a wide variety of STEM subjects, including biology, chemistry, computer science, economics, environmental science, mathematics, philosophy, physics, psychology, and statistics. These services are free of charge to Middlebury College students.
Peer Tutoring
Peer tutoring is available to assist students with homework, quantitative projects, and test preparation. Schedule an appointment with a tutor at go.middlebury.edu/appt.
Tutors typically work with students from a specific course at scheduled study sessions, or—when recommended by the professor—on a one-on-one basis. All CTLR peer tutors have been approved by a faculty member in the appropriate discipline and have received critically important training from the CTLR in tutoring best practices.
Math Review
Practice and review materials are available for many precalculus topics, including algebra and trigonometry. See the math review information for a selection of downloadable files, links to online resources, and self-assessment quizzes.

New Fall Half-Credit Courses Begin

The first half-credit courses at Middlebury began this fall semester. The courses vary from religion to an experiential learning capstone. The Middlebury Campus quoted Priscilla Bremser (Math) about the course Mathematical Problem-Solving, “I hope my course gives students with uneven mathematics backgrounds a chance to solidify foundational concepts so that they can succeed in calculus.” Read more of College Tries Out New Half-Credit Course System This Fall.

Clinton Cave (Neuroscience) and the Value of Undergraduate Research

Clinton Cave (Neuroscience) was recently featured in TheScientist where he talks about the value of undergraduate research. “Middlebury’s undergraduate focus…is a real strength because it gives students early access to sophisticated labs, setting them up to succeed in STEM careers. Perkins Teaching Award Winner Greg Pask (Biology) Researches Fireflies with Students

Seven Days recently featured Biology Professor Greg Pask, the 2022 recipient of the Perkins Award for Excellence in Teaching.
